Before the sun came up, Bella Bunny tied her apron and started her morning bread.

She mixed flour and water in a big bowl, stirring slowly round and round.

She kneaded the soft dough, patted it flat, and tucked it into a warm pan.

Then Bella waited. The dough did not rise right away, and she peeked at it twice.

"Good bread takes its time," she said, and she swept the bakery floor instead.

Little by little, the dough puffed up, round and soft like a pillow.

Bella slid it into the oven, and soon a warm, golden smell filled the shop.

When the bread came out, it was crusty on top and soft inside.

Bella cut the very first slice and gave it to her friend, a hungry hedgehog.

They ate it warm with butter, and Bella smiled. Waiting had made it taste wonderful.
