Benny Badger brought out his big drum, and his friends brought taps and shakers.

First they played LOUD! Boom, boom, bang went the drum across the yard.

The noise was so big that a baby bird woke up and peeped in surprise.

"Oops," said Benny. "Loud is fun, but not all the time."

Next they played soft. Tap, tap, tap went the little drums, gentle as rain.

The baby bird settled down and listened, with its eyes half closed.

Then the band tried both: loud for the march, soft for the tiptoe part.

They marched around the garden, boom for the steps, tap for the sneaky bits.

At the end, they played the softest song of all, a lullaby for the bird.

## Page 10

The bird fell asleep, and the band whispered together, 'Drum, tap, shh!'
